Insta Notes ("we", "us", or "our") provides a tool that turns voice notes into animated videos directly in your web browser. This Privacy Policy explains what information we handle, how we handle it, and the choices you have. The short version: your audio and personal content never leave your device.

1. Overview — Local-First by Design

Insta Notes is a local-first application. Recording, trimming, avatar creation, and video generation all happen in your browser using the Web Audio, MediaRecorder, Canvas, and WebCodecs APIs. No account is required, no audio file is ever transmitted, and no cloud processing is performed.

2. Information We Do NOT Collect

We do not collect, store, or process any of the following:

• Voice recordings or audio files you record or upload;
• Images, avatars, or photos you add;
• Videos or previews you generate;
• Your name, email address, phone number, or any account credentials;
• Your IP address, device fingerprint, or location data (we run no first-party analytics);
• Any tracking cookies, beacons, or advertising identifiers.

3. Data That Stays on Your Device (Local Storage)

To remember your preferences between visits, we use your browser's local storage (localStorage) and session storage. This may include:

• Your selected light/dark mode and note theme;
• Custom theme colors you choose;
• Your custom avatar image;
• Recent editor settings.

Everything stored is kept only in your browser and is never transmitted anywhere. You can delete it at any time by clearing your browser's site data for https://insta-notes.onrender.com, or by using your browser's privacy controls. Note that stored data is not encrypted at rest by us, because it never leaves your device — but anyone with access to your device or browser profile may be able to view it, so please use it only on devices you trust.

4. Third-Party Services

Our pages use very limited third-party services:

• Google Fonts — we load the Inter font family from Google's servers. When a font is requested, Google may receive your IP address and browser information in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy. You can avoid this by blocking these requests in your browser.
• Hosting infrastructure — our host may keep standard server logs (such as IP address, request time, and page requested) for security and operational purposes, as required by applicable law and their own policies. These logs do not contain the content of your voice notes.

5. Cookies

We do not set cookies for advertising, tracking, or analytics. Our pages do not use document.cookie at all. The browser storage mentioned in Section 3 uses the localStorage API, which is distinct from cookies and never sent to our servers.

6. Children's Privacy

Insta Notes does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 (or the applicable minimum age in your jurisdiction). Because the service collects no personal information at all, there is nothing to collect from any user, including children. If you believe a child has shared personal information with us, contact us using the details in Section 10 and we will take appropriate steps.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

Because recordings, uploads, and generated videos exist only in memory while the page is open:

• Closing the tab or window permanently discards any in-memory audio and video;
• Downloaded videos are stored by you on your device — deleting them is your responsibility;
• Preferences in local storage persist until you clear your browser's site data, after which all local data is permanently removed.

There is no server-side copy of your work to delete because none is ever created.

8. Security

We follow industry-standard security practices for our infrastructure, including HTTPS in transit for everything we serve. Since we store no user content on any server, the most common breach scenarios (data leaks, server-side data exposure) do not apply to your content. As always, we recommend using up-to-date browsers and strong security on your own devices.

9. Your Choices and Rights

Depending on where you live (for example, under GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, or similar laws), you may have rights concerning your personal data. Because we collect no personal data from you in connection with the service, exercising those rights is straightforward:

• Access / portability: all of your data is already in your browser;
• Deletion: clear your browser's site data;
• Opt-out: nothing to opt out of — there is no tracking, advertising, or selling of personal information (and we never will).

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, for material changes, post a notice on the homepage. Continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
